The population is about 10,000. Farming is the main occupation today. It is noted for the Castle of Marquis de los Velez and the Church of Nuestra Senora de la Encarnacion. There are also a number of other impressive buildings dating from the nineteenth century too.

Set apart from the town is the impressive reservoir, built in the 1980’s it has been a great boon to the area and serves 12 municipalities. A great benefit for agrilture and domestic consumption alike.
